Every resident of Nanaimo deserves to live in an equitable, inclusive, and welcoming community. As Nanaimo’s population rapidly increases, including the number of newcomers to Canada, Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society (CVIMS) continues to consider the ways it can make the city more equitable and inclusive.

We are conducting research on the available services and resources that exist in Nanaimo. We want to learn about Nanaimo’s strengths, and to identify the areas where we can improve our community. We recognize that as the city grows, the services and resources available for all residents must also expand and adapt to fit the needs of our diverse community.

No matter how long you have lived in Nanaimo, your input is valuable! We are looking for residents who can share their experiences and opinions on immigration and the availability of services and resources for newcomers. Whether you are a newcomer to Canada (less than five years) or have lived in the community for more than five years, we want to hear from you.

We are also seeking feedback from businesses, service providers, and cultural and religious organizations. We want to hear about how your business or organization serves the newcomer community. Knowing what your strengths are and the areas where improvements can be made, will help us determine how newcomers to Nanaimo can experience a more inclusive and equitable community.

Your feedback will remain anonymous and will help make Nanaimo a stronger, more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community for all residents. To thank you for participating in the newcomer and community surveys, you will be eligible to voluntarily enter your name for a prize draw. Prizes include gift cards to local businesses, and tickets to sports and cultural events. Businesses and organizations will be eligible for a prize draw of a half page ad space in Nanaimo Magazine. Draws will be held in early December.
