Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)

The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program connects newcomer students and families to school, community and government resources in Nanaimo-Ladysmith area.

SWIS services include things like:

  • School registration (new immigrant family, Kindergarten, Early and Late French Immersion Programs, transfer schools etc.)
  • Friendship clubs at local Elementary schools
  • Connect youth group for girls
  • Summer, winter and spring camps for children and youth
  • Student Lounge at local high schools
  • Youth activities
  • Referrals to community and school resources for children and youth
  • Youth employment information
  • Interpreting/translation services for school related issues
