Local Entrepreneurship Accelerated Program (LEAP)

CVIMS is thrilled to announce the launch of the Local Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program (LEAP) for Newcomers, in partnership with Community Futures Central Island!
LEAP will provide newcomers with practical training to develop strong business plans and successfully start their own business in Canada.
This initiative would not be possible without the generous support of the Nanaimo Foundation.
What is LEAP?
LEAP is a 14-week program that helps newcomers start their own business. Each week, participants spend 8-10 hours learning, including a self-study and one in-class session.
The program teachers how to test and improve business ideas, understand self-employment in Canada, and get expert advice. It also includes one-on-one coaching and a final event where participants share their business ideas.

- How to find customers
- Setting competitive prices
- Practicing business presentations with community members
- Networking to find financial support
Who Can Join LEAP?
- Minimum CLB Level 5 in English
- Permanent Residents or Canadian Citizens (naturalized)
- Able to commit 8-10 hours per week to the program
