We are thrilled to announce that we have been successful in receiving funding for two new diversity proposals:
Arts Engagement “A Journey to Inclusion”
This project will match nine diverse professional visual artists (including: photography, painting, and textile) with nine diverse community members (Including: immigrants, refugees, Aboriginal people, people of faith and LGBT community) to collaboratively create a visual art exhibit that will take us on a visual journey exploring racism and hate motivated behaviour to the ultimate transition to an inclusive society. This show will be displayed in the lobby of Nanaimo’s Port Theatre on The UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, March 21st, 2013
Inter-faith “Harmonies of Faith”
How music, chants, hymns and spoken word build understanding
Through chants, hymns and spoken word of diverse faiths, a musical dialogue of peace, compassion and equality will take place on Dec 20, 2012 at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo. Knowledge of diverse faiths will be shared with people in a positive and meaningful way, promoting understanding and an increased acceptance of the diversity that exists in our community. This musical performance will be followed by a dialogue moderated by Paul Bramadat, Director of the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society at the University of Victoria.
